A suitable pig ark - farm building etc - dry, draught free, well bedded with straw and cleaned out when dirty. It is not good for pigs to sleep directly on the ground. A decent size area, well fenced and internally secured with barb wire and/or an electric fence.

Feed & Water :

Clean fresh water must be available at all times from the age of 2 weeks onwards, ideally feed twice a day, we use sow nuts and work up to 1kilo per feed twice a day and more for pregnant pigs, feed by eye pigs should clear feed within 20 mins, extra apples, carrots etc should be given when available and that have not been exposed to any other food/catering processes.

Health & Welfare :

Like people, pigs suffer with similar health problems for similar reasons, check them at least twice a day, if you feel there is a problem dont panic use common sense ask for advice and contact a vet. Pigs can become depressed and like company so interact with them as much as you can.

Seasonal Management :

In summer watch for sun burn and administer sun block especially behind the ears encourage pigs to wallow by filling an area with water and be prepared to give more water than usual. In winter take precautions for water supply incase of supply freezing.

Just a few tips above to start you off, buy a book or two, read defras pig keeping guide, join some internet forums and a breeders club, Pig keepers generally like to help when they can.
